History and Details
The beautiful land of 1 Acre, 2 Roods, and 2 Perches located at No. 155/1, Trackmo Junction, Thilakarathna Mawatha, Ihala Imbulgoda, was donated by teacher Mrs. Irene Thilakarathna. Currently providing shelter for 31 resident mothers, this fully equipped women's home consists of two residential halls, an office, a sick room, a kitchen, and a dining hall, all secured by a surrounding wall.
The foundation stone was laid on June 3, 2006, by former First Lady Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The first phase, built at a cost of approximately 11 million rupees, was opened on June 23, 2010. The second phase was completed at a cost of 2.2 million rupees and opened on Thursday, August 11, 2011. A fully equipped kitchen was donated by the former Vice President of our society, Mr. T.M. Wilman Rodrigo.
A shrine room was built and donated by our society's Board Member, JP Mr. K.A. Upali Dharmasiri Peiris, his wife, and children. In 2018, a fully equipped dining hall building was constructed and donated at a cost of 2.7 million rupees by businessman Mr. Kanagaraja, owner of Colombo Sriyani Restaurant. Additionally, a portion of land for a well and a 3-foot access path was provided by Mr. M.G. Chandrasena of Imbulgoda. Teacher Irene Thilakarathna, who donated the land, passed away on September 11, 2010, and her funeral was conducted under the society's patronage.
