“A Historic Heritage and a Righteous Youth Mission”

Centered around the sacred historic site of Kelaniya, the Kiribathgoda Kelaniya Young Buddhist Association was established in 1958 with the aim of fostering religious and spiritual awakening in the area. I first wish to gratefully remember that the pioneering guidance and blessings of our revered Chief Prelates who resided in the Kelaniya area at that time were the primary strength behind the establishment of this association.

The Foundation of the Past and the Responsibility of the Present

Throughout its long history from then to now, the service rendered by this association has been immense. The aspirations of our Chief Prelates at that time were:

Sustaining the Buddha Sasana: To nurture a dedicated group of youth committed to the advancement of the Buddha’s dispensation.
Buddhist identity: To safeguard Buddhist values in the Kiribathgoda and Kelaniya areas.
A virtuous society: To unite the strength of youth in producing disciplined citizens with leadership qualities.

It is a matter of great satisfaction that the current members have successfully continued to carry forward the meaningful light of Dhamma lit by our venerable leaders in the past, without letting it fade.

A Message to the Future Generation

In the face of various social challenges in the modern world, it is your responsibility to remain steadfast and act based on the Buddhist values preserved by our ancestors and revered prelates. Although the world is rapidly changing with technological advancement, the noble objectives established at the founding of our association in 1958 remain equally relevant today.

While wishing the association continued strength to engage in its religious and social mission, I extend my leadership blessings to the present office bearers and members.
